1. Number of positions: One Associate Professor (five-year fixed-term contract*)

*The term of five-year fixed-term contract is set for 5 years at the time of employment. (If you are currently working at our university and work continuously, the total term of office, from the current term to the next term, cannot exceed 10 years.) The candidate will be converted to adequate tenured status, based on the following achievements, which is to be implemented during the term.

(1) Educational achievements (Lecture, Practicum, Seminar, Research guidance, etc.)

(2) Research achievements (Research papers, Presentations at conferences, Research grants)

(3) Contribution to the university and society, and so on


2. Affiliation:

(1) Research body: Institute for the Study of Ancient Civilizations and Cultural Resources

(2) Educational body: School of Humanities and Graduate School of Human and Socio-environmental Studies

*You will have to participate in (cooperative) research projects of Kanazawa University.


3. Field of specialization: Archaeology and Cultural Resource Studies

It is desirable for all following requirements to be fulfilled:

・ Holding remarkable international research achievement on archaeology and cultural resource studies

・ Holding research fields on Maya civilization and its neighborhood areas in Central America


4. Courses to Teach:

● School of Humanities (undergraduate school) (English): Theory of Museum Exhibition, Ancient Civilization studies, Practice of Archaeology, Practice of Museology

● Graduate School of Human and Socio-environmental Studies (English or Spanish): Practice of Archaeology, Special lecture on Cultural Heritage, Introduction to Cultural Resource Studies


5. Qualifications:

All the following requirements must be fulfilled:

(1) Holding a doctoral degree

(2) Able to conduct classes in Japanese

(3) Able to advise students, complete administrative tasks, contribute to committee works, and perform other necessary work in Japanese, English and Spanish

(4) Reside in Kanazawa or its surrounding areas after employment

7. Commencement of employment: February 1, 2023 (Or the earliest possible date thereafter)

(1)* Curriculum vitae with a recent photo

(2)* Record of academic achievements: list of research achievements, list of educational activities, list of earned research grants, academic service, and social activities

(3) Offprints or photocopies of five of the applicant’s major publications (books or articles)

(4) List of a summary for each publication listed in the research achievements (approximately from 200 to 400 characters in Japanese. Any summary included in the articles of journals and proceedings may be reproduced)

(5) Statement on the applicant’s prospective research and education at Kanazawa University (approximately 1000 characters in Japanese or 600 words in English)

(6) Electronic media (e.g. USB flash memory, etc.) containing the PDF files of the documents (1), (2), (4), and (5)

9. Selection process:

The selection will be based on the submitted documents. After the initial screening, short-listed candidates may be called for an interview and be asked to give a teaching demonstration. Travel costs (including overseas travel) for the interview will not be covered.
