This Center consists of three divisions―Division of Tangible Cultural Resources, Division of Intangible Cultural Resources, and Division of Cultural Resource Information―whose missions are to conduct researches and investigations on tangible cultural resources, do them on intangible ones, and collect cultural resource information and contribute it to society, respectively.
Division of Tangible Cultural Resources, including the Restoration Project of Mural Paintings in the Basilica di Santa Croce which started in the 2004 fiscal year, has been carrying out Jordon Archeology Studies and Educational Cooperation Project, Vietnam Public Archaeology Project, Buddhist Caves in India Project, and World Mixed Heritage Tikal Overall Project.
In Division of Intangible Cultural Resources, which has Japan-China Intangible Cultural Heritage Project starting in 2007 at the head of the list, Trans-boundary Ethnic Groups and Religious Transformation Project, Music and Identity Formation Project, and Ethnography of Archaeology Project have been under way.
Division of Cultural Resource Information conducts research for the systematic collection, management, publication, and social contribution of information about cultural resources. Especially, it conveys the results of survey and research of Divisions of Tangible and Intangible Cultural Resources to all over the world, through report publication, release on its homepage, and the creation and publication of database (by picture, image, and sound).
The center staff consists of one full-time, sixteen concurrent, four supporting, and five visiting professors. Furthermore, twelve visiting fellows with Ph.D. belong to the Center. We are actively accepting post-doctoral researchers as visiting fellows in relevant disciplines: archaeology, art history, architecture history, cultural anthropology, religious studies, linguistics, etc. A researcher number required to apply for Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research can be obtained.
