Kanazawa Training Program:October 6-7, 2019

As a part of the Project for the Development of Human Resources and Support of Self-Organization in the Tikal National Park Tourist Corridor, six visitors from Guatemala and one from Honduras will participate in a training program hosted in Kanazawa University in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) from October 6 to October 18, 2019. The program provides opportunity for leaders of the communities and key members of local institutions in the area surrounding Tikal Archaeological Park in Guatemala to discuss challenges, think of solutions and propose an action plan. The workshops will give them the opportunity to learn from examples in Japan on how to effectively manage cultural resources. It will include the study of the cultural heritage of Kanazawa, Takayama and Shirakawago among others.
The participants from Guatemala are Ms. Cristel Michell Pineda Orellana from Tikal Archaeological Park; Mr. Carlos Abigail González Gonzáles from INTECAP; Mr. Francisco Cano from the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT); and Ms. Ingrid Francisca Morales Jiménez from the Ixlú Community. From Honduras Mr. Cristian Aguilar from the Honduran Institute of History and Anthropology (INAH). Additionally, the program counts with the support from program coordinators Mr. Mynor Alexander Urízar Chavarría and Mr. Miguel Ángel Echeverría Tager from Guatemala.
In the morning of October 7, 2019 during the Opening Ceremony Prof. Yoichi Nishimoto, Director of the Center for Cultural Resource Studies; Mr. Yoshihiko Chujo from JICA Hokuriku Center; and Prof. Seiichi Nakamura from the Center for Cultural Resource Studies gave speeches to welcome the participants. Afterwards Mr. Francisco Cano addressed the attendees in the name of the Guatemalan and Honduras participants. Following the ceremony, the participants were guided around the facilities of Kanazawa University.
In the afternoon, the participants of the program visited the President of Kanazawa University, event during which Ms. Cristel Michell Pineda Orellana saluted the attendees in the name of the trainees.
